ive been lurking around here for a few weeks now, and decided to bite the bullet and join.

i'm really impressed with the community here, very helpful and mature.

anywho, i'm 30 years old, and have been edc'ing for a bit now. i use a laptop/messenger style bag for in the car and work, but usually just use a keyring when not at work, which has the following;

mini sharpie
small carabiner which came with an LED lenser torch
peanut lighter
SOG micron
LED lenser button-cell torch
beer key (bottle opener in the shape of a house key
home made widgy pry bar
lanyard (stormdranes' blog has got me addicted to these)
house/car keys

Found this killer multitool for three dollars. Yep, three dollars. They're out now, but you can bet I'll be getting more. I turned one into a multikey, which promptly broke one key, and then politely showed me that I had spent a whole bunch of time grinding down improperly made key copies. That's why I've got all those keys still on rings.

I went from EDCing a Blackhawk! Stingray to a 5.11 Rush 24, then I downsized to a 5.11 Rush 12.

I've just ordered a Maxpedition Sitka, and when that arrives, I hope to do a comprehensive thread on all that I carry.

Joined a few weeks back, thought I'd introduce myself, maybe will give my future posts some context.

I'm a design professional in the San Francisco Bay Area, and an avid outdoorsperson. I backpack (ultralight is my thing), kayak, hike, mountain bike, and trail-run. I'm also a CERT-trained volunteer for our neighborhood, and am trained in first aid and wilderness first aid. (Got a NOLS class on the birthday list for the big Four-Oh. ;D) I discovered this forum through BackpackingLight.com.

I EDC in urban and rural environments primarily because I've been in or near a number of situations in which some level of EDC makes life easier. I've been in road-bike crashes in the remote countryside. My wife has been airlifted out of the Sierra Nevada because of a broken leg. A hill caught fire nearby this year and surrounding homes were evac'd by the police with no time to gather possessions. And, of course, earthquakes.

I'm in no way a pessimist, or prone to dwelling on TEOTWAWKI scenarios. That's not where my head's at. I EDC to keep myself and those around me - at work and in the backcountry - safe, productive, and hopefully having fun.

Every day I don't use any EDC or first aid item is a good day. Every day I do is a day that's made less stressful.
